I think the real issue here is about accuracy in ascribing blame, if indeed the act was done by JWs. It would be technically correct to say it was done by JWs. But such statement needs to be clarified to make it known that it was done by rogue individual JWs and their action is not representative of typical JW conduct and is not encouraged or condoned by JWs as a group.

That would be making a judgment call rather than reporting facts. Subjective judgment calls are not the media's place--factual reporting is.

BluesBrother, we've got multiple news sources, including the New York times, reporting this article, and we have multiple former members telling about their own actions that were similar. What facts exactly would make this occurrence seem "legitimate" to you?

And by the way, more than a few of us have spent lifetimes around this organization.

I absolutely think JWs would do this. Regardless if the leadership claims credit or condemns it, it's exactly the kind of myopic self aggrandizing circle jerk that disrespects others' culture and beliefs that the superstitious rank and file would partake in.

As far as leadership claiming credit, of course they're not going to, as that would open them up to financial responsibility. What they do is promote a culture that devalues, demonizes, and lies about history and world culture, and encourages this sort of bigotry. You can bet your arse that the rank and file are going to take actions consistent with those qualities.

I'm wondering where a lot of you are that I remember. Mrsjones, misanthropic, crazy numerology dude that was always posting numbers and bible verses, terry, beksbks, etc. etc. I'm horrible with name, but there were a lot of people here I enjoyed interacting with.
